NEW ENTOMOPATHOGENIC NEMATODES ACTIVE AT LOW TEMPERATURES

The nematodes belong to a strain of the species S. kraussei and are active at relatively low temperatures. For example, when the nematodes are applied in the infectious stage at a density of 500,000/m2 of agricultural soil where O. sulcatus larvae are present and which is kept at a constant temperature of 5 °C, they cause a mortality rate of the larvae of at least 50 % after 14 days or at least 70 % after a period of 28 days. Insecticidal formulations and a method for protecting plants from insects are also disclosed.
