The present invention relates to a method and system for synchronizing resource allocation in a parallel processing system. In predefined time intervals, each user application running in a parallel processing system is given a high priority so that system resources are allocated to user applications instead of operating system services. This high priority lasts for a predetermined time. As this time elapses, each priority value is lowered, thus giving the operating system a chance to run the service.
