Hydrocarbon impurities can be quantitatively removed from hydrocyanic acid by passing dilute aqueous solutions of the acid over activated charcoal. Adsorptive removal of hydrocarbons from aqueous hydrocyanic acid solutions using activated charcoal comprises passing initial solution, which contains 1-50 wt. % hydrocyanic acid and 2-1000 ppm by weight of hydrocarbons over a solid activated charcoal adsorber at 2-50 deg C and at a velocity of up to 500 m/h.
