Production of gelatinous anion exchangers with osmotic and mechanical stability comprises aminating crosslinked, gelatinous styrene-divinylbenzene suspension polymers containing haloalkyl groups in the presence of less than 5 wt.% inorganic salt w.r.t. the total amount of water.
