An artificial respiration tube (10) which, at its lung end, has a pressure sensor (5) with electronic signal processing is used for continuously measuring the central respiratory tract pressure during assisted and controlled artificial respiration. Unlike the respiratory tract pressure measured in the artificial respiration equipment, the continuously measured central respiratory tract pressure allows artificial respiration to be better adapted to the mechanical properties of the lungs and thorax. In addition, the resulting pressure signal is suitable for controlling various functions of the artificial respiration equipment. As a whole, artificial respiration by means of a tracheal tube with an integrated electronic pressure sensor is safer and more confortable for the patient, without being more expensive.
