A cardboard package has two opposite supporting edges made from flaps which are folded along a series of parallel lines (10, 11) which enable them to be set in folded or raised positions. The flaps are situated along the edges of a backing panel (5) and are folded so that in the raised position they have horizontal (6) and vertical (8,9) sides, the inner vertical sides being much shorter than the outer ones to form recesses for the articles placed in the package between the two edges. The folded edges have a certain elasticity so that they deploy automatically when the package is opened.
