The invention concerns a method for gelling aqueous media by introducing in said media an effective amount of at least a water soluble or water dispersible copolyester oligomer comprising essentially oxyalkylene, oxycycloalkylene or polyoxyalkylene dicarboxylate structural units; at least 35 mol % of said structural units being similar units whose corresponding homopolymer is crystalline; at least 7 mol % of said structural units being units bearing hydrophile function(s), in particular sulphonated. The invention also concerns the use of said oligomer as gelling agent of aqueous media. The invention further concerns as novel products, copolyester oligomers comprising essentially oxyethylene and polyoxyethylene dicarboxyolate structural units (particularly terephthalate units); at least 35 mol % of said structural units being similar oxyethylene units whose corresponding homopolymer is crystalline; at least 7 mol % of said structural units being sulphoisophthalate units; the molecular mass by weight of said polyester oligomers being preferably less than 20000.
