The data management system converts data provided by different sources into a common standard format, then classifies the data as a function of its rate of change. Each of the classes is then stored separately in a database, which is updated at a frequency depending on the class. This data is then read as required by the decision making aid. The data is taken periodically from the input source and analysed at intervals taking account of both past and present data to produce information on the progress of a mission. Critical information particularly concerning safety of the patrols is updated at a set frequency, and displayed with appropriate symbols.
