Pharmaceutical composition (I) for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases such as dyslipaemia, arterial hypertension, arterial complications and athero-thrombotic diseases, comprises: (i) 2500-4000 mg fish oil (the 30% omega 3 polyunsaturated content consisting of 180 mg% EPA and 120 mg% DHA); (ii) 300-600 mg alpha tocopherol acetate; (iii) less than 500 mg vitamin C; (iv) less than 10 mg beta -carotene; and (v) 40-60 mu g selenium. Also claimed is a pharmaceutical composition (II) for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular complications of diabetes mellitus, comprising 3000 mg fish oil (the 30% omega 3 polyunsaturated content consisting of 180 mg% EPA and 120 mg% DHA) and components (ii)-(v).
