Brief description of the heat treatment of municipal waste materials, or similar products, by gasification and melting of the residue

Urban waste or similar is partly burned in a fluidised bed reactor (G), the upward air flow in the bed being sufficient to agitate and break up residual solids so that they are carried out of the reactor in a stream of gas to a chamber (8) where combustion is completed and from which the residual solids are recovered in molten form. Also claimed is plant comprising vertically oriented reactor (G), with fluidised bed (2) near the bottom and an inlet for waste, connected by duct (7) to combustion chamber (8).
