The face mask, which may be of plastic or rubber and which provides an air-tight seal with the face, comprises internal and external skins C, D with a void E therebetween, a ventilation inlet A passing through the mask and a suction outlet B communicating with the void E and for connection to a suction device. Plastic spacers may help to maintain the void between the skins and continuous, flexible rubber pads may be positioned around the perimeters of the skins so as not to occlude the void. The mask adheres to the contours of the face and creates an air-tight seal via suction during ventilation therapy.
