PURPOSE:To provide the subject agent capable of safely, simply and effectively controlling soil diseases over a long period by employing antagonistic microorganisms immobilized on calcium alginate beads and, if necessary, further an organic substance suitable for the multiplication of the microorganisms in soil. CONSTITUTION:A soil disease control agent comprises antagonistic microorganisms (preferably microorganisms belonging to the genus Streptomyces or Serratia) immobilized on calcium alginate beads. The agent permits the colonization of the antagonistic microorganisms in soil and the utilization of the antagonistic activity to effectively control soil diseases. The co-employment of the immobilized microorganisms with an organic substance capable of multiplying the microorganisms allows to maintain the potency of the agent for a further long period.
