PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ammonia oxidative bacterium which is increased in the shelf life of microbial cell body and the handling by lyophilizing an ammonia oxidative bacterium containing luciferase gene along with a protective agent for protecting bioluminescent ability and nitrification inhibitor respondent ability. ;SOLUTION: The objective frozen microbial cell body of an ammonia oxidative bacterium which permits the improvement in the shelf life of microbial cell body or the rapidness and convenience in handling and can maintain bioluminescent activity over a long period of time is obtained by lyophilizing the ammonia oxidative bacterium (e.g. Nitrosomonas europae or the like) with a luciferase gene (e.g. Vibrio harvey-derived luciferase gene or the like) in the presence of a protective agent containing a protein, e.g. albumin, globulin, skim milk or the like, which protects the bioluminescent ability of the above ammonia oxidative bacterium and the respondent ability to nitrification inhibitors, when the ammonia oxidative bacterium with luciferase gene is lyophilized.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
