PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a Bi4Ti3O12 ferroelectric substance being a dense sintered compact by a simple process. ;SOLUTION: Coprecipitated powder obtained by a coprecipitation method is temporarily sintered to obtain the temporarily sintered powder, which then is compacted. The compacted body is filled in a carbon die together with reduction preventing powder, which then is sintered while plasma is discharged by a constant heating speed sintering method to sinter a sample by heating to 800-1,000°C at a constant speed under pressure and holding for a prescribed time or a constant electric current sintering method to sinter the sample while supplying the constant electric current under the pressure until 800-900°C to produce the sintered compact having crystals oriented remarkably to the (b) axis, over 0.7 orientation degree and 95% relative density with good reproducibility.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
