PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate study of sign language. ;SOLUTION: When key words and hand form data are inputted from an input part 101 and a sign language word for a study object is designated, each part is operated under the control of an entire control part 102 as follows: a sign language retrieval part 103 acquires a sign language word data from a sign language dictionary part 104 and a sign language image retrieval part acquires a sign language image from a sign language image storage part 108, respectively, and also a background retrieval part 105 acquires background information for sign language gesture explanation from a background dictionary part 106, and an animation generation part 109 acquires a material data and a scenario for generating the animation from an animation data storage part 110, and a background animation is generated which visually expresses a meaning of a sign language word for study. And, based on the synthesis information in a synthesis information storage part 113, a background image synthesis part 112 synthesizes the sign language image and the background animation and displays them on a display connected with an output part 111 together with the sign language word data, etc.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
