The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for a long nip roll, especially a pressure shoe roll for a shoe calender, which long nip roll comprises: a pressure shoe roll 1 with a flexible roll shell 2; an inner pressure shoe unit 3 in the pressure shoe roll 1 for loading and pressing the flexible roll shell 2 against a counter-roll 4 of the pressure shoe roll, the long nip N being closed and in use; and at least one inner support shoe device 10 in the pressure shoe roll 1 for damping vibrations in the flexible roll shell 2 and for supporting the latter.
