A SYSTEMS FOR LOCATING TRANSPONDERS IN AN INSTALLATION FOR REMOTE PAYMENT OF MOTORWAY TOLLS

A system for locating a transponder (T) travellingalong a road (4) of a certain width, the system beingcharacterized in that it comprises: a set of beacons (B1 to B6) each suitable forcommunicating with the transponder (T) if it is locatedin a communications zone (S) specific to the beacon underconsideration and of a width ([err]) that is smaller than thewidth ([err]) of the road, the beacons being distributed inline across the road so that the communications zones ofthe beacons (S1 to S6) overlap in pairs and togethercover the entire width of the road; and * control means (U) acting cyclically on the beaconsto cause them to transmit signals for establishingcommunication between themselves and a transponderpassing through at least at least one of the beaconcommunications zones, which control means detect whichbeacon or beacons have established such communicationwith the transponder and associate the detected beacon(s)with a certain portion (P1 to P6) of the width of theroad indicative of the lateral position of thetransponder across the road, said control means (U)activating said beacons (B1 to B6) in a sequence suchthat two adjacent beacons do not transmit simultaneously.
