A method for post-harvest treatment of fruit and vegetables uses a composition prepared by purifying a phytosanitary product (I) contaminated with aromatic primary amines and mixing the resulting reaction mixture with water. A method for post-harvest treatment of fruit and vegetables uses a composition prepared by purifying a phytosanitary product (I) contaminated with aromatic primary amines and mixing the resulting reaction mixture with water. The purification process comprises: (1) stirring a solution of (I) in a nonionic surfactant and/or a 2-12C glycol with an aqueous alkali metal nitrite solution at 15-25 degrees C; (2) adding a strong mineral acid to the mixture while stirring at the same temperature; and (3) heating the mixture to 30-70 degrees C.
