Method and device in a data network for mapping names of data processing systems into addresses and vice versa

The method of displaying logic names in a data network and a data bank system distributed in the network which contains the information necessary for the display involves reformulating a display query in a first network element into a suitable query. The query is processed and can be further processed in a suitable way by at least an existing service program (DNS) in the data network, in order to ascertain the display result. By analysing the query, additional information is obtained and is used to decide to which service program the query must be relayed in the data network.
