PURPOSE: An apparatus for testing the function of a base band analog chip set (BBA) in a digital cellular terminal and method for the same are provided to test the function thereof without need to implement an end-product of a terminal by applying a programmable FPGA to the function test. CONSTITUTION: A buffer (132) temporarily stores digital data from a BBA (110) and then output it to a logic analyzer (160). A serial-parallel converter (134) converts the serial data from the BBA (110) into parallel data. A unit (136) for generating a Tx clock and frequency generates digital signals on FM clocks and FM Q channels which are necessary to test the function and outputs them to the BBA (110). The unit (136) can be driven under the control of a PC (170), which performs a corresponding operation according to programs installed in an EEPROM (144). A mode controller (138) outputs control signals in response to the operations for selecting one of a FM mode, CDMA mode, idle mode and sleep mode. The logic analyzer (160) tests the function of a receiver system based on the parallel data from a serial-parallel converter (142).
