Automotive differential gear box air breather is simpler and more compact than prior art

An automotive differential gear (10) has an atmospheric air breather which is located at the top of the gear case. The air breathing passage (42) funnels into the annular chamber located between the bearing and the shaft seal. The breather is installed pref. in the gear case oil top-up cap.
