A partial line section is separated from the remaining lines automatically in regular time intervals using electrically operable gas valves (2-4). A line section to be monitored is flushed over a superimposed bypass (7) with test gas for temporarily pressure drop measurement. Then the bypass is closed again automatically and the partial line section connected with the remaining gas lines again.
