The sliding roof has two cover sections(4a,4b) located one behind the other in the closed position and can be folded in such a way that their rear edge(H) is raised in relation to the roof frame(1) while their front edges(V) lie level with the roof frame. The cover sections have roof lining sections(5a,5b) lying below them in the closed position and movable in the vehicle's longitudinal direction. The roof lining sections by a hinging motion of the cover sections are each shifted to the rear by a fixed distance in the vehicle's longitudinal direction, with the distance moved by the front roof lining section(5a) being less than that of the section(5b) lying behind it.
