A multilayer structure comprises lower and upper layers, each consisting of plate shaped elements (P), made of soft magnetic material and arranged parallel to each other in a single plane, such that the upper layer elements cover the air gap (L) between the lower layer elements. The width (d) of each element is smaller than its lateral dimension or length (D), preferably, the length to width ratio being 5:1. The overlapping region of the layers is larger than the air gap. An Independent claim is also included for a method of producing magnetic shield.
