Electrochemical treatment reactor for impure liquids has numerous electrodes and fluid passages around charge of titanium oxide granules. A liquid bearing a load of impurities or micro-organisms flows through a cathode tank (2) in which it is subjected to electrochemical treatment. The tank has flanges at each end with inlet and outlet apertures for the fluid. The tank (2) has an array of pertly insulated membrane-covered electrodes (3) and has a charge of titanium oxide ceramic granules (8) with a matrix of passages (9) through which the water flows. The granules and tank are subjected to an electrical potential difference. The liquid flows through the passages (9) between the electrodes and granules.
