The workpiece spindle drive is for a multi-spindle automatic lathe with several working spindles fitted round the center of a drum and driven by mechanically independently driven sun wheels (1, 2), each spindle being coupled to a different sun wheel. Two or more of the sun wheels can be briefly driven at synchronized angles to couple the spindle drives for a positive drive change for any spindle.
