The arrangement has a brake pedal sensor(6) arrangement for detecting a driver's braking demand, an accelerator pedal position sensing arrangement(7) and a controller(1) for evaluating the sensor signals and controlling a braking system(2) and drive unit accordingly. The control unit detects a jammed brake pedal if the detected brake pedal position is constant for a defined period and the accelerator pedal position is greater than a rest position. An Independent claim is also included for a method of detecting pedal mechanism faults.
