The hob housing (1) which is open top and bottom has one or several spaced grill elements (3) each comprising a linear horizontal gas burner (4) with upwardly directed flame outlets (6) and set in a lower part of a burner chamber (11) open on the top and bottom for air cooling. A radiation hood (14) on the upper end of the burner chamber has roof-shaped sides so that the combustion gases rising in the burner chamber are siphoned back down from the inclined flanks and then up and out . The grill rack (18) rests on the radiation hood in heat-conductive connection with same and a pull-out grease pan drawer (20) is provided under the grill elements to collect fat and juices.
