The method involves generating a measurement parameter for the compression pressure in the chamber (3) and processing it in an electronic circuit. The parameter is determined via a variable capacitance (4,5) whose dielectric is influenced by the medium in the chamber and the pressure occurring in the chamber. The measurement parameter is used as the actual signal for regulating the compression of the medium filling the chamber of a piston engine. Independent claims are also included for an arrangement for implementing the above method.
