N-pole permanent magnets (35,41) and S-pole permanent magnets (38,34) are arranged close to pole ends of N and S magnetic poles of rotor. N-pole center section (40) and S-pole center section (39) of the rotor are made of soft magnetic material. An Independent claim is also included for synchronous motor control apparatus.
