A resin composition (RC) based on (A) 1-30 wt% polyisophthalic acid diester and (B) 70-99 wt% polyterephthalic acid diester also contains (C) 250-5000 ppm chain-branching agent and (D) 50-3000 ppm nucleating agent. Independent claims are also included for:- (1) a process for the production of RC by mixing 8-20% polyethylene isophthalate (PEI), 80-92% polyethylene terephthalate (PET), 250-5000 ppm (C), 1-2% diethylene glycol or its dimethyl ether and catalyst(s) based on cobalt manganese and/or antimony in a continuous or discontinuous reactor, reacting to a homogeneous PEI/PET composition (optionally with removal of volatiles under reduced pressure), stabilizing with a phosphorus-containing stabilizer and optionally polymerizing in the solid state; (2) a similar process in which the PEI and PET are replaced by isophthalic acid and terephthalic acid (or their non-polymeric diesters) together with sufficient diol for complete reaction with these acids; (3) containers made from this RC.
