A borate single crystal, comprising an orthorhombic double alkali metal borate crystal with no central symmetry, is new. A novel borate single crystal comprises an orthorhombic crystal of the space group P212121 and has the formula (A2O).(B2O3)x, where A = two of Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs and x = 1.4 to 2.5 exclusive. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a growth process for the above single crystal; (2) a laser having a light wavelength converter comprising the above single crystal; and (3) processing equipment employing the above laser.
