The present invention refers to a screening device, such as a screen cylinder, for screening, filtration, fractioning or sorting e. g. pulp suspensions in pulp and paper making industry. The screening device comprises a plurality of filter wires positioned at a small spacing parallel to each other and at least one longitudinal support element, for supporting the filter wires thereon. Each support element has according to the invention a plurality of supporting slots made through the up-stream side surface thereof, the slots having a form adapted to receive the downstream section of the filter wires. The filter wires are fixed to the slots in the support element by local deformation of the material within the slot.
