The lifting device is fitted on to the lifting point (23) of the lifting carriage and is fitted with a grip (6 and 7) to grip the tubular element (3), in a horizontal position. It is also fitted with a provision (17) to rotate the tubular element through 90 deg. around the primary horizontal axis (15) and the arrangement to rotate the tubular element through 90 deg. around a secondary horizontal axis, which is perpendicular to the primary axis, to carry the element in a vertical position.
