The prosthesis comprises a lower femoral mounting plate (1) comprising side walls (5,6) to provide lateral support for the knee. This is attached to the femur by way of a bolt (70). A plate (2) is mounted to the top of the tibia and is complimentary in shape to the upper plate. Support flanges guide the femoral plate to provide natural movement of the knee on the curved profile (21,22) of the plate.
