Invention involves direct measurement at the light source of the power and intensity of the light energy used to create an image for each operation cycle. The duration of the light source operation is also measured and compared with predetermined values for each paper size. A signal is checked for at the sensor and a counter appropriate to the paper or media size is increased by one. A CPU (6) is used to manage data arising from the copier of printer (7). If necessary the data can be transmitted via an antenna (9) and a GSM network to a remote server (6).
