A method for the fabrication, shaping and machining a component in a shape memory alloy is carried out in a single step in which the component is produced, shaped and machined simultaneously in a single operation in a cutting-machining process such as turning. The invention also concerns the component prepared by this method which, in particular, is a helical spring with contiguous turns.
