Construction with jointless integrally formed floor and wall portions suitable for underground buildings

A construction formed from water impervious reinforced concrete comprises a peripheral floor portion (10) defining a central space and an upwardly extending lower wall portion (11). The construction is formed using outer, intermediate and inner shuttering placed such that the inner shuttering (19-22), being equivalent in height to the floor portion typically 300mm, defines a central space, the outer shuttering (4-9), being equivalent in height to the floor and lower wall portion typically 1500mm, defines and outer surface and the intermediate shuttering (12-17), being equivalent in height to the lower wall portion typically 1200mm, is located between the inner and outer shuttering such that its lower edge is in the same plane as the top edge of the inner shuttering and its upper edge is in the same plane as the upper edge of the outer shuttering. Reinforcing bars are then provided and concrete is poured first into the space defining the floor portion and then into the space defining the wall portion allowing the concrete to harden or closing or sealing the top of the floor space between filling each of the spaces. An upper wall portion may be constructed on top of the lower wall and a waterproof barrier may be provided between the portions (Figure 4).
