PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an excellent sustained-release fertilizer without using an organic solvent when the fertilizer is produced and to obtain the excellent sustained-release fertilizer with slight influences on environments. SOLUTION: This method for producing the sustained-release fertilizer comprises coating the surface of a fertilizer with an aqueous dispersion of an aliphatic polyester-based biodegradable resin and/or an acetylcellose-based biodegradable resin, drying the coated dispersion and compounding the biodegradable resin(s) with the fertilizer or mixing the aqueous dispersion of the aliphatic polyester-based biodegradable resin and/or acetylcellulose-based biodegradable resin with the fertilizer, then drying the resultant mixture and compounding the biodegradable resin(s) with the fertilizer.
