PURPOSE:To automatically transfer a comment between documents by automatically reappending a comment appended to a certain part in the 1st document to an equivalent position in the 2nd document. CONSTITUTION:The positional information of a comment corresponding to an old document obtained from an old document comment file 52 is stored in a positional information area 41 and the contents of the comment are stored in a comment content area 42. A character string corresponding to the positional information is extracted and stored in a character string area 43. A new document file 53 is retrieved based upon the character string stored in the area 43 and the positional information of the retrieved character string is stored in a candidate area 44. One of the positional information stored in the area 44 is selected and stored in a new positional information area 45. Then comment contents and the positional information stored in respective areas 42, 45 are written in a new document comment file 54.
