PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber cable which is easier to produce than a conventional cable and can reduce the nonlinear effect though inspite of low production and maintenance costs. ;SOLUTION: A symmetrical optical fiber cable where an average overall dispersion value in a prescribed operation wavelength range is almost 0, consists of a first optical fiber as a single mode optical fiber, which has a first effective area and a positive dispersion characteristic in the prescribed operation wavelength range and consists of two segments 230 whose lengths are approximately equal, and a second optical fiber 240 which has a second effective area and a negative dispersion characteristic in the prescribed operation wavelength range and is connected between two segments 230 of the first optical fibers.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
