A recirculation system for a boiling water reactor includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced impeller-driven reactor internal pumps (46) disposed in a downcomer for pumping a first portion of reactor coolant (30a), and a plurality of circumferentially spaced fluid-driven jet pumps (48) disposed in the downcomer for pumping a remaining portion 30b of the coolant in the downcomer.
