PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply manufacture a walking stick having various patterns by covering the periphery of a shaft made of an optional raw material with a desired sheet-like decorative material. SOLUTION: A shaft 3 is formed with an optional raw material, e.g. a metal, wood, or a synthetic resin, and a groove 5 having a fine width is formed in the axial direction. A sheet-like decorative material 6 having the width slightly wider than the outer periphery of the shaft 3 and the length nearly equal to the length of the shaft 3 is wound and stuck on the periphery of the shaft 3 to cover it, and the end section is thrust into the groove 5. A fabric or artificial leather can be used for the sheet-like decorative material 6, and a thin raw material such as a plastic film or paper can be also used. After the periphery of the shaft 3 is covered with the sheet-like decorative material 6, water repellent finishing is applied to the surface of the sheet-like decorative material 6. A water repellent agent or a waterproof agent is sprayed on the surface of the sheet-like decorative material 6 for water repellent finishing. The surface of the sheet-like decorative material 6 is coated with a urethane paint 7 after water repellent finishing is applied.
