PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure detection of large sized incombustible matters in the thermal decomposition residue discharged from thermal decomposition reactor, and discharge the matters with reliable safety and efficiency. ;SOLUTION: An apparatus 51 for discharging thermal decomposition residue disposed at a rear step of a thermal decomposition reactor is provided with a cantilevered spiral screen 53 and a stretchable detector rod 57 disposed parallel with the screen, which detects the large size incombustible matters by having its tip contacted with them. When a level sensor 58 detects an intercepting matter, it actuates the detector rod 57. When a large sized incombustible matter 59 is recognized, the matter s discharged from the opening of a damper 54. If the level sensor 58 erroneously operates in the absence of any large sized incombustible matter, the detector rod 57 is retracted and the damper 54 is closed. Thus, leakage of air to inside and leakage of thermal decomposition gas to outside due to the erroneous operations, can be prevented, and therefore the large sized incombustible matters can be taken out with reliable safety and efficiency.
