The information system, particularly for rail passengers, involves an information panel (1) comprising a picture screen suspended above the heads of travellers. It also has a section at a lower level. The picture screen is preferably of the plasma, liquid crystal display or cathode radiation type and preferably has the following dimensions:- 1m x 50cm, or even larger, such as 1.2m wide and 66cm high. The system is computer-controlled via an operator-governed terminal and at least a part of the information on the panel can be shown on request. The panel has a time indicating device (2,5,6,7) so that an indication can be given of a forthcoming time, such as the time (9) a train will arrive.
