Continuous metal casting method for producing steel billets, bloom, slabs, involves supplying liquid metal jet to mold and then applying varying and static magnetic fields, to prevent oscillation of liquid metal

A jet liquid metal is supplied to a mold (1) which already contains liquid metal. A time varying magnetic field is applied by magnets (6,7) to liquid metal, to prevent natural oscillations of the liquid metal. A static magnetic field is applied to the liquid metal to superpose with varying magnetic field. The varying magnetic field is applied periodically at irregular intervals during casting process. Varying magnetic field applied with stochastically varying amplitude, is applied with a frequency in the order of 10-103 times which is higher than frequency of the oscillation frequency. An Independent claim is also included for continuous metal casting apparatus.
