A safety device (1) for retaining a replaceable match tray (9), the device (1) broadly includes a casing (2) having a top member, a bottom member, a first side member, a first end member and a second end member, the first end member having a first aperture of a size sufficient to allow a tray (9), in use, to be slidable through the first aperture, a means for allowing access to the other end of a said tray (9) adjacent the first aperture for a user to eject at least a portion of a tray (9) through the first aperture for access to a match, and having a second releasably securable side member opposite the first side member for retaining a tray (9) within the casing (2).
