CAR TYPE RECOGNIZING METHOD USING A STATISTICAL QUANTITY EXTRACTION TECHNIQUE

PURPOSE: A vehicle classification method using a statistics extracting technique is provided to be capable of enhancing the efficiency in freeway traffic analysis and control management by comparing the value of a regularized vehicle information with a reference value to recognize a vehicle passing through an inductive loop coil. CONSTITUTION: First, vehicle classes are grouped by collecting respective vehicle class information. Then, respective patterns of the grouped vehicle class information are regularized into vertical and horizontal components. Next, random outline points for the regularized respective vehicle class data are set. Then, an average value of the outline point set data is calculated to be set as a reference value. Next, detected vehicle information is regularized into vertical and horizontal components. Then, random outline points are set for the regularized information. Next, the sum of distances between average values of a target vehicle is calculated by comparing the vehicle information and the reference value. Then, a group of minimum distance is determined and then corresponding car class is recognized.
