FIELD: measurement technology, diagnostics of atmosphere. SUBSTANCE: proposed procedure determines spatial distribution of concentration of gas by way of sounding of examined region of atmosphere by optical radiation with wave length within limits of circuit of gas absorption, by heterodyne reception of echo signal, by frequency modulation of carrier frequency of optical radiation by signal with linear change of subcarrier. Deviation of carrier frequency of optical radiation is chosen within limits of circuit of gas absorption. Signal of low- frequency beats is extracted from received echo signal with conducting of its compensation by quadratic frequency. Calibration characteristic of dependence determining concentration of gas on amplitude of signal of low-frequency beats is measured, distance to examined points is found by measurement of frequency of beats. Amplitudes of spectral components of signal of low-frequency beats are measured and spatial distribution of concentration of gas along path to examined points is determined in accordance with given formula.
