An inductive component (1), which receives supply voltage (UB), has a serial measurement resistance (2) and has its current flow controlled by a control circuit (3) that generates pulse width modulation (PWM). Connected in parallel to the resistance is a low pass filter (6). A serial meter (7) is used to measure the average current through the inductive component. The time constant of the low pass filter is chosen so that it matches the controlling frequency of the PWM.
